PANCHAVATI

River Godavari flows through Nashik as well as its Northern part is known as Panchavati. It is known that god Shri Ram and as well, Sita along with Laxman stayed at Panchavati for a while. Thus Panchavati has gained holy importance. There are 5 Banyan (Vad) trees and therefore the area is known as Panchavati. Nearby is Sita Gumpha (cave) where Sita is said to have stayed for a while.

Ramkund

Three rivers meet in Nashik

At the Sangam a getting together place of three rivers the Ganga, the Yamuna, and also the mythical Saraswati.

The most important place in Panchavati is Ramkund. It is so-called because Lord Rama is believed to have taken a shower there. Ramkund Also Known for

Tapovan

Sita Gumpha

Kalaram Mandir

Naroshankar Temple

Sited in Panchavati region, nearby the bank of river Godavari - fondly recognized as Anga by Nashik cities - is Naroshankar Temple of Rameshwar created by Naroshankar Rajebahaddur in 1747. The architectural elegance of the temple is known as “Maya” style. It is one of the popular fabulous pieces of temple structures of the 18th century. The main temple is on the platform. Rather than inside of the temple, sculpture on the external part is spectacular. It has rows of impressive designs. One layer is of attractive lacework. The next one is that of peacocks keeping bead garlands. In 4 guidelines are statues of the saints in Padmasana - 1 holding rosary, the other one a holy book - all of them are scholars. Sundar Narayan Temple

Sundar Narayan temple is located at the corner of Ahillyabai Holkar Bridge. The story goes like that: Vrinda Devi was an extremely pious and as well, devoted wife of Jalandhar - a wicked demon. Jalandhar, a mighty crook, was the devotee of God Shiva. Satisfied with his wishes and as well, impressed by Jalandhar's wife’s chastity, God Shiva offered him a boon that built him immortal. With that boon, Jalandhar started to be vicious and as well, began establishing havoc on earth. He not only bothered human beings but also annoyed the Gods. He even ventured to pick up a quarrel with God Shiva himself.

Because of this task, God Vishnu replicated himself to search just like Jalandhar and as well, lived with Vrinda Devi. Thus her chastity was suspected as well as the boon provided to Jalandhar was withdrawn and as well, he was damaged. When Vrinda Devi reached know of the key performed by God Vishnu, she received furious and as well, cursed Lord Vishnu. His appealing body turned black due to the curse. God Vishnu took a holy shower in the river Godavari and as well, regained his complexion. Since he became gorgeous again, - the Lord is known as Sundar Narayana. Sundar in Marathi means gorgeous.
